It was highlighted that Georgia is a valuable partner of the Alliance, as well as of Canada in the region. The Ministers emphasized Canada’s role in ensuring regional security and its strong support for Georgia's integration into the Alliance and for NATO's open door policy.
The Canadian side expressed its readiness to help Georgia overcome the existing challenges and strengthen the country's capabilities. Canada's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed. The Georgian Foreign Minister briefed his Canadian counterpart on the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia.
During the meeting, the Ministers also reviewed the bilateral relations between Georgia and Canada. The Ministers expressed their readiness to facilitate the strengthening of economic contacts between the countries and to establish contacts between the relevant agencies. The Ministers noted that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries provides a good opportunity to properly mark the anniversary date and also to lay the foundation for new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
