The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan
The Ministers welcomed the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Japan and noted that the anniversary date is a good opportunity to develop new areas of cooperation. Underlining the Japan-Georgia friendly and partnership relations, the Georgian Foreign Minister thanked his Japanese counterpart for Japan's support to Georgia, including financial assistance for the eradication of the pandemic, and various projects implemented by the Japanese Government.
The ministers underlined the growing potential of trade ties between the two countries and welcomed the signing of an investment protection agreement and double taxation agreement between Japan and Georgia last year and agreed to work actively to deepen economic ties in the future.
Speaking on global and regional challenges, the ministers reviewed the security challenges in Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his Japanese counterpart for supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Special attention was paid to the deepening of cooperation and inter-people ties in the field of culture, in this regard the ministers discussed the possibility of Georgia's participation in the international exhibition "Expo 2025" planned in Japan. The ministers talked about the exchange of high-level visits, Ilia Darchiashvili invited his counterpart to Georgia.
