Information about the photo exhibition of Georgia’s contribution to ISAF opened in NATO headquarters in Brussels


On May 16th the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Baramidze and Nato Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero and opened exhibition of Georgia’s contribution to ISAF in NATO headquarters in Brussels. Exhibition was organized with the support of Lithuanian delegation to NATO. 73 photos are presented on the exhibition and they describe the presence of Georgian troops in Afghanistan and their relations with native population.  Considering terrorism and other emerging security challenges as a direct threat to its security, Georgia is actively engaged in Allied efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan. Georgia has been a part of International Security Assistance Force Since 2007. In October 2009 Georgia deployed a light infantry company - 173 military personnel to Kabul under French Command. In November 2009 a light infantry battalion – 749 military personnel was deployed to Helmand province under US command without caveats where Georgian Battalion was given its own operational area of responsibility. With its deployment over 950 soldiers Georgia represents the second largest non-NATO contributor and the largest contributor per capita to the overall operation.
